Summer Company 2026 Applications

The Summer Company Program is officially accepting applications for 2026!

If you’re a student aged 15–29 with a business idea, the Summer Company program offers up to $3,000 in funding, plus mentorship and guidance to help you launch and run your own business. It’s a great way to build real‑world skills in marketing, customer service, and financial management while developing a venture of your own

The Summer Company program is administered by our partners at the Waterloo Region Small Business Centre, but business mentorship meetings for Cambridge participants are hosted at City Hall over the course of the summer.

While the City of Cambridge no longer processes provincial business registrations, we'll help you understand the process and choose the right structure.

  • All registrations now handled through Service Ontario's Ontario Business Registry | ontario.ca
  • Registration of a Business Name is Required under the Business Names Act.
  • Registration is needed to open a business bank account or apply for a municipal license with the City of Cambridge

Economic Development offers one‑on‑one business consultations with a member of our team designed to provide guidance and support to new and existing entrepreneurs in the community. You can inquire with our Small Business Centre by filling out an inquiry form here.

Cambridge Economic Development hosts monthly business seminars designed to educate you on business topics that support you in starting, building, and growing your business in Cambridge.

You can view seminars hosted by the Cambridge Economic Development Team on the City's Events Calendar.

Our business partners at the Waterloo Region Small Business Centre also host a variety of events in the region. As a Cambridge resident, you are able to participate in any of these events regardless of their location.

The Business Benefits Finder is an ideal starting point for discovering funding opportunities online. The platform features a search tool that lets users filter programs by their business needs, location, and type of enterprise.

Featured Business Programs

Fuel your business ambition with mentorship, training, and funding. The following programs are currently offered by the Small Business Centre.

Starter Company Plus is a training and mentorship program for businesses in Ontario. The program offers training opportunities in Business Planning, Marketing, and Financials.

Upon completion of the Training, Mentoring, and submission of a finalized Business Plan, you’ll have the chance to pitch for $2,500 to $5,000 in grant funding to kick off or expand your current business.

Summer Company is an amazing opportunity for young entrepreneurs to run their own business over the summer. Participants can expect to receive $1,500 in start-up money to kick off new summer business ventures and seek mentorship from local business leaders to help get the business up and running.

Every year, there is a Cambridge Summer Company Cohort that had their mentorship meetings hosted at Cambridge City Hall.

This program is administered regionally by the Waterloo Region Small Business Centre.
