Fire Hall Museum & Education Centre

Explore the Fire Hall Museum & Education Centre in Cambridge, Ontario to learn about the history of fire service in the City of Cambridge and its surrounding areas.

Featuring an original restored antique fire truck, historical photographs, firefighting equipment, uniforms and more, the museum is the perfect place for families – with bells to ring, sirens to try, helmets and bunker gear to wear for a fun selfie, and a scavenger hunt to complete.

Located in the restored 1898 Town of Galt Fire Hall at City of Cambridge Civic Square, just one block from the Cambridge Farmers’ Market and next door to the Cambridge Centre for the Arts.

Admission to the museum is FREE but donations are gratefully accepted!

Hours of Operation

The museum is open Saturdays from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm.

Group Tours

The museum offers a great opportunity for an outing for a school class, Brownies, Scouts and other youth groups. Note that washrooms are not accessible, as they are on the building’s second floor. The Fire Hall Museum charges for groups booking a private tour when the museum is not otherwise open to the public. The fee is $60 for a group of up to 15 people plus $4 for each additional person, including all taxes. Contact us about larger groups. Fees may be waived at the discretion of the Board of Directors. Payment can be made by cash, cheque or e-Transfer to donate@firehallmuseum.ca.

Fun facts about the Fire Hall and the history of fire service in Cambridge

  • This Fire Hall served the community from 1898 until 1979
  • One of the Fire Hall's pets was Rex - a bull terrier
  • The Fire Engine on exhibit was purchased in 1938 and was in service until 1963
  • The earliest Fire Department in the community was established in 1842
  • The Galt Fire Department last used horses to pull fire equipment in 1928
  • In 2024, the Fire Hall Museum & Education Centre celebrated its 20th Anniversary

Events and Exhibits in 2026

Talk to a Firefighter, on Saturdays, April through October 2026 from approximately 10am to 11am at the Fire Hall Museum. An on-duty crew and truck from the Cambridge Fire Department visits the Museum each Saturday morning. ​See a working fire truck closeup. Talk to firefighters about their careers. Visits are dependent upon emergency responses in the community, and they may have to leave in a hurry to respond to a call! Presented in partnership with the Cambridge Fire Department.
