Multi-Year Accessibility Plan (2024–2028)

The City’s Multi-Year Accessibility Plan for 2024–2028 outlines our continued work to build an inclusive, barrier-free community.

The plan focuses on five key areas:

  • Information and Communications
  • Employment
  • Design of Public Spaces
  • Transportation
  • Customer Service

Key actions include:

  • Improving sidewalks, tactile wayfinding, and audible pedestrian signals
  • Expanding and enforcing accessible parking at City facilities
  • Strengthening digital accessibility through accessible formats, tools, and staff training
  • Embedding accessibility into all new capital projects
  • Enhancing inclusive hiring practices and workplace accommodations
  • Exploring new technologies to meet changing community needs

The plan, approved by Council and supported by the Cambridge Accessibility Advisory Committee, guides our ongoing efforts to make Cambridge more accessible, inclusive, and welcoming for everyone.

The Cambridge Accessibility Advisory Committee (CAAC) advises Council and provides input on City projects related to the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA). The Committee supports the City’s efforts to create a barrier‑free Cambridge by reviewing municipal policies, programs, and services, and identifying, removing, and preventing barriers for people with disabilities.

Accessibility Updates & Reporting

The City of Cambridge follows policies and practices that support independence, dignity, integration, and equal opportunity for people with disabilities. These policies guide how we meet, and work to exceed, the requirements of the AODA.

Businesses, non-profits, and public-sector organizations, including municipalities, must regularly submit accessibility compliance reports to the Government of Ontario to confirm they meet AODA requirements.

The corporate website follows the AODA and meets the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 Level AA. However, we cannot guarantee the accessibility of third-party websites or external documents linked from other sites.

The City provides notice of any planned or unplanned service or facility disruptions that may impact accessibility. To help residents plan ahead, notices are posted in the affected area and on the Facility and Program Changes page.

Assistive devices are available at City facilities to help remove barriers to accessing programs and services. We encourage residents to contact that facility to inquire about the availability of that assistive device. Persons living with a disability may use their own assistive devices as required when accessing goods or services.

The City of Cambridge is committed to ensuring everyone can fully participate in and enjoy our community. To learn how to request supports or accommodations for City programs, please visit Support and Accommodations.
