Step 1: Check and Update Your Voter Information

The VIP allows eligible Cambridge voters to:

  • Confirm they are on the voters' list
  • Review their voter information
  • Update their information if it has changed

To update your voter information, you may need:

  • Government-issued identification
  • Proof of your current address

Once you have submitted a change to your voter information the City of Cambridge Clerk's Office will review changes and make revisions.

Step 2: Voter ID Verification

Why Do I Need to Do This?

Just as you would show identification when voting in person, online voting requires identity verification.

During this process, you'll be asked to upload a photo of your government-issued photo ID.

Completing identity validation before voting helps make the voting process faster and easier when online voting opens.

What You'll Need:

One of the following valid government-issued photo IDs:

  • Driver's Licence
  • Ontario Photo Card
  • Health card or Passport (with additional identification validating Cambridge address)
  • Additional accepted forms of ID, if applicable

Step 3: Vote Online

Online voting is available from September 26 to October 26.

What You'll Need:

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • A computer, tablet or smartphone with a camera
  • An internet connection
  • Your Voting PIN

Troubleshooting Tips

  • Allow pop-ups for the voting website
  • Allow camera access when prompted
  • Make sure you are using a supported web browser

If pages are not loading correctly:

  • Clear your browser history and cache
  • Close your browser completely
  • Reopen the browser and try again

In the Voter Information Portal under “Street” select “my street is not listed”. This will let you manually add your address. 

You must complete step 2 of verifying your identity before you proceed to step 3 vote.

If this error occurs when you're trying to validate your identity reopen the page to try again.  

For best results:

  • Place the ID on a flat surface
  • Ensure the entire piece of ID is visible
  • Make sure all text is clear and readable
  • Avoid glare, shadows or blurry photos

If you're locked out of your account, please contact the Election’s Office for assistance and to regain access (election@cambridge.ca or call 519-513-6415). 

To help prevent this from happening: 

  • Make sure you have successfully completed Step 2: Identity Verification before proceeding to vote. 

  • When prompted to take a selfie, follow all on-screen instructions carefully.

Step 1: Voter Information Portal: 

If you have a Voter Notification letter, ensure you are entering your personal information exactly as it appears on the letter (even if the information is incorrect). Once you have located your record, you will be able to make edits.  

Step 2: Verify your Identification:

This error may occur if you are not selecting your address from the dropdown menu. When entering your address, begin typing your street name and then select the matching address from the dropdown menu. If the error continues, contact the Clerks department for assistance.  

Frequently Asked Questions

Your Voting PIN is a unique code used to access the online voting system. Keep your PIN secure and do not share it with anyone.

Voter PIN’s are only available on voter information letters. If you did not receive one in the mail, please contact our Clerks office by phone or email. 

Your information may not be in or updated on the voters list. To check if you are on the voters list, use the Voter Information Portal or attend city hall or a poll for assistance.  

Yes, a health card or passport can be used, but a second document that includes both address and name must be provided. A list of acceptable identification can be found on the Voting in the Municipal Election page.  

Please write “return to sender” on the envelope. Edits will be made once the document is returned to City Hall.
