Selection process

Our selection process typically includes the following steps:

Step 1: Apply online for positions that have been posted
Apply online for one of our current job opportunities. We only contact those selected for an interview to start the application process. We don't accept unsolicited applications and you must be legally eligible to work in Canada to apply for a job with the City of Cambridge.
Step 2: Shortlisting and interviews

We determine which applicants to add to our shortlist and then contact those candidates for an interview with the hiring manager and a representative from Human Resources.

We ask a series of questions in your interview and the interviewers take notes. If you have any questions during the interview, please feel free to ask.

This interview is a conversation between the City of Cambridge and the candidate to ensure that you are the right fit for the position and that the City of Cambridge is the right fit for you.

Step 3: Personal Profile Analysis

We may ask you to complete a Personal Profile Analysis. This analysis tells us a great deal about your behavioural style in the workplace. It also helps us manage and coach you, if we decide to bring you onboard.

This analysis is not a test. You cannot fail or pass, and there is not right or wrong answer. Complete the analysis without interruption or discussion with others. It should only take 8 to 12 minutes to complete.

Step 4: Second interview
Sometimes we may choose to meet with you again to assess your fit for the position. At this interview, we may ask you to complete an assessment that's relevant to the position you're applying for. This is also a chance for you to ask any questions you may have.
Step 5: References
We contact two or three of your references. This is to confirm your previous work experience and to confirm your fit for the position.
Step 6: Offer

If you are the best candidate for the job, we provide you with a written offer, including terms and conditions of employment with the City. Conditions may include:
