September is Grandparents Month!
Grandparents Day is Sunday, Sept. 14, but this year the City is celebrating Grandparents Month all September long! Connecting different generations helps to strengthen belonging and well-being. The City is hosting a number of activities throughout the month to help grandparents and grandchildren learn, explore and create together.
Here are a few ways you can have a #GrandExperience together in September:
- Attend a public skate at Galt Arena
- Make a favourite family recipe together
- Take a walk along one of the City’s trails
- Volunteer together
- Join the Grand-Family Fun Club on Grandparents Day
- Share photos of your activities on social media with #GrandExperience

Some grandparents have also taken on the role of parent to their grandchildren. More than 32,000 children in Canada are being raised by their grandparents. There are multiple reasons for this, including death, illness, or addiction issues. Skipped generation families come with a unique set of challenges, so we invite grandparents experiencing this to attend a free information and connection session.
