Biography:
Helen Shwery was first elected to the City of Cambridge City Council in a by-election in November 2023.

Currently, Helen is the owner of Teeth First Dental Network. Helen has a background in fraud investigations and audit, with over a decade of experience in the field. She has worked closely with insurers, law enforcement, and regulatory bodies. Helen was a founding board member of the Canadian Health Care Anti-Fraud Association, which is now part of the Canadian Life and Health Association. She was also a member of the National Health Care Anti-Fraud Association.

Helen has been actively involved in her community, served on her condo board and was its past president for 6 years. She volunteered at WRHN @ Midtown (formerly Grand River Hospital) and currently volunteers at her church.

Helen values family time and cherishes being with her loved ones, especially her grandchildren. Helen has a passion for singing and has sung with Menno Singers and many church choirs. Helen believes in listening respectfully to taxpayers' needs, being transparent, and being a wise steward of public funds to make Cambridge a more beautiful and affordable place to live.

Helen loves her hometown of Cambridge and is passionate about preserving its natural beauty. Helen’s vision for the city's future reflects a blend of practicality, sustainability, and compassion.

Mike Devine

Biography:
Born and raised in Cambridge, councillor Devine currently resides in Ward 2 with his wife of over 40 years, Janis. Mike and Janis raised two daughters Shannon and Kristine and now have three grandchildren, Ella, Garrison and Kristian.

Professionally, Mike was a tool and die maker and former president for the Canadian Auto Workers Local 1451. Councillor Devine also sat on the board of directors of the Social Planning Council of Cambridge and North Dumfries.

Councillor Devine worked with the Provincial Advisory Committee of the Metal Machining Trades on Apprenticeship and Exam Certification, the Federal Red Seal Committee on Skilled Trades Exam Certification, was an Executive member of the former Cambridge Industrial Committee, appointed to the Board of Referees for Employment Insurance, former Hespeler Minor Softball coach, Former Executive Board of the Cambridge and North Dumfries Social Planning Council and strong supporter of United Way and Food Bank.

Mike prides himself on being accessible to his constituents and on always being a no-nonsense voice for them on council.

Corey Kimpson

Biography:
Born at Cambridge Memorial Hospital, Corey lives in her family house in Ward 3, on a street where neighbors still remember the day her parents brought her home from the hospital. Along with her husband Todd, Corey is busy raising their two daughters as part of her family’s third generation of Prestonians.

Corey attended Preston Public School, William G Davis, and Preston High, before graduating from University of Waterloo’s Faculty of Applied Health Sciences. She holds a BA with a major in Recreation and Leisure and a double minor in Business and Gerontology. Councillor Kimpson went on to obtain a certificate in volunteer management from Conestoga College and Certificates in Patient Experience Leadership and Patient Advocacy from Patient Experience Institute.

Corey has owned and operated several businesses in and around Cambridge, including the Preston Downtown Core. Her businesses have been in the retail and recreation sectors and have always received high marks for customer satisfaction.

Corey is the Chair of the Preston Towne Market Planning Committee and Co-Chair on parent councils at both Preston Public School and Preston High School. She served as Chair of the Cambridge Memorial Hospital’s Patient and Family Advisory Council and was awarded Innovative Patient Advisor of the Year, 2020 by the Beryl Institute. She is also a Breast-Feeding Buddy Peer, a St. John Ambulance Car Seat Safety Educator and an Ambulance Therapy Dog Volunteer.

Corey wants to preserve what is best from her community’s history, character and architecture, while also looking ahead to plan the city our children will inherit. She wants our neighborhoods to be inclusive, accessible, vibrant, fun and safe for everyone.

Ross Earnshaw

Biography:
Born in St. Thomas, Ontario, Councillor Earnshaw moved to Cambridge in 1977 where he still resides in Ward 4.

Ross earned his degrees in Music (Western, 1973), Science (York, 1974), and Law (Osgoode, 1977) and began his career as a lawyer. During his years of practice, he held executive positions with the Waterloo Region Law Association, the Law Society of Ontario, and the Federation of Law Societies of Canada. He also spent three years as a member of the board of the Law Foundation of Ontario, an organization devoted to increasing access to justice for vulnerable and marginalized elements of society. After 40 years, he retired from his position as a senior commercial litigation partner with the Gowling firm.

Closer to home, Ross served two terms on the Cambridge Public Library Board, including a time as its chair.  He sings in two local choirs, holds an executive position at his church, and, in his spare time, enjoys biking and hiking the trails in and around Cambridge with his life partner, Suzanne. Councillor Earnshaw has two adult sons who reside together in Ottawa. 

Ross loves Cambridge, is passionate about his community and the people living in it. He encourages thoughtful development, protecting our growing neighbourhoods and the families living there.

Sheri Roberts

Biography:
A long-time resident of Cambridge, Councillor Roberts has been active in the community for over a decade. She currently resides in Ward 5 and is the proud mom of a teenaged son.

Sheri completed a degree in economics at McMaster University in 2004 and holds a certificate in Community Advocacy from Conestoga College. She has volunteered and worked professionally in social services for over 15 years as well as in the legal and financial fields.

A life-long volunteer, community advocate and public speaker, Sheri has worked in our city for many years to improve access for all residents. She was the chair/vice chair or the Cambridge Accessibility Advisory Committee for 12 years, and throughout this time she spearheaded community projects with a focus on inclusion and community engagement.

Sheri prides herself on being an excellent communicator who prioritizes ongoing, accessible, transparent communication with residents in order to represent their best interests at council.

Adam Cooper

Biography:
Raised in England, Adam emigrated to Cambridge in 1988 and attended Galt Collegiate Institute and Conestoga College. Adam is a father of two and grandfather of one.

Councillor Cooper has worked professionally as a computer programmer and website developer for over 20 years. He is also a TRMA award nominated musician and is regularly active in the local music scene. Other interests include aviation, scuba diving, motorcycle rides on country roads, history, live music, trivia, and exploring beautiful trails.

Prior to being elected, Councillor Cooper was actively involved in his local neighborhood watch group and was a regular delegate on various issues at council meetings. He also sat on the committee for the very first Hot Springs Music Festival.

Adam believes that by working together with all levels of government, and by listening to the needs of the residents, we can all enjoy a better, more prosperous Cambridge.

Scott Hamilton

Biography:
Councillor Hamilton was first elected to Cambridge city council in a by-election in October 2020. Due to delays resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, it was the longest election held in the history of Cambridge.

Scott graduated from the University of Oxford (UK) with a master’s degree in International Relations (Political Science). He then received a full scholarship to complete a PhD at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) (UK). Upon returning to Canada, he received the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship, and taught international politics, philosophy, security, and environmental politics, at Wilfrid Laurier University and the Balsillie School of International Affairs (BSIA) in Waterloo, ON.

Today, Councillor Hamilton works in Waterloo, consulting on strategy, public affairs, and communications. His hobbies include jogging, resistance training, biking, writing, antique collecting, and - for fun - yard sales, comics, and learning how to refinish furniture. With two young children, Councillor Hamilton and his wife Katie are active community members and sports enthusiasts. Scott is also a huge Raptors fan!

After living around Canada and in Europe, Scott is thrilled to call Cambridge his 'forever home' and is excited to help the City of Cambridge and its residents grow and succeed, today and well into our shared future.

Nicolas Ermeta

Biography:
Councillor Ermeta is the eldest of six siblings and has called the North Galt area of Cambridge home for the last 30 years.

After graduating from St. Benedict Secondary School, Nicholas received his Bachelor of Environmental Studies (Honours Planning) from the University of Waterloo, which has led him to several consultation positions throughout Ontario. He also holds a diploma in Urban and Regional Planning GIS from Mohawk College.

When he isn’t enjoying cycling, hiking, photography, swimming and going to the theatre, Councillor Ermeta is actively involved with the Cambridge Self Help Food Bank, the Cambridge Salvation Army Kettle, the Cambridge Symphony Orchestra and his local Church. Nicholas also volunteers his time supporting the Suicide Prevention and Youth Awards Fundraisers as well as helping with Cambridge’s Canada Day festivities.

Councillor Ermeta loves Cambridge, and he cares about investing in people’s lives to help them thrive.
