Election Governance & Resources

This page provides a central location for all policies, bylaws, and Clerk’s procedures that guide the administration of municipal elections. It is designed for candidates, third‑party advertisers, staff, and members of the public seeking clarity on how elections are governed.

Policies

The Use of Corporate Resources During an Election Policy outlines how municipal facilities, equipment, technology, staff time, and communication channels may and may not be used during an election. Its purpose is to protect the neutrality of the municipality and ensure that no candidate or third‑party advertiser receives an unfair advantage through the use of City resources.

To learn more, please visit our dedicated Use of Corporate Resources During an Election Policy page, where the full policy and related guidance are available.

Detailed Clerk’s procedures will become available closer to the nomination period and the election period.

Please check back regularly as these documents will be posted as available.

If you have any questions in the meantime, contact the Clerk’s Office, our team is here to help.

By-Laws

The election section of the Sign By-law regulates when, where, and how election signs may be placed within the municipality. These rules help ensure public safety, maintain community standards, and create a fair and consistent approach to signage during the election period.

The by-law outlines requirements such as:

  • Permitted locations for election signs
  • Timing for installation and removal
  • Size, height, and placement restrictions
  • Enforcement measures for non‑compliance

To view the full details, please visit our dedicated Election Sign By-law page, where the complete by-law and guidance materials are available.

Accessibility

An accessibility plan under the Municipal Elections Act (MEA) is a document the municipal clerk must prepare that outlines how barriers affecting voters and candidates with disabilities will be identified, removed, and prevented, and it must be made publicly available before voting day in a regular election.
Once the 2026 plan has been completed and approved, it will be posted and made publicly available.
