The City of Cambridge uses social media platforms for communicating with residents about news, events and other updates. We welcome feedback through direct messages and respectful conversation, however we do not condone any form of online bullying or harassment. In order to provide a space that is open and friendly for all, please review the following Terms of Use:

  • Be respectful of other users of this site including the staff who work at the City of Cambridge.
  • Comments must remain clean and civil.
  • Comments that promote, perpetuate or foster discrimination on the basis of race, creed, colour, age, religion, gender, marital status, status with regard to public assistance, nationality, physical or mental disability or sexual orientation will be removed.
  • Use of language that is discriminatory, hateful, or violent towards identifiable groups or that incites others to discriminate, practice hate or violence will not be tolerated.
  • Comments that are offensive to an individual or an organization, rude in tone, abusive or harassing in nature will be removed.
  • Do not post content that breaks the law or encourage others to do so (this includes defamation, breaching privacy, breaching another person’s intellectual property rights such as copyright, condoning illegal activity and contempt of court).
  • Do not post personal information – addresses, phone numbers, email addresses or other online contact details – relating either to you or other individuals.
  • Impersonating or falsely claiming to represent a person or an organization will not be tolerated. Do not attempt to log on using another user’s account.
  • Solicitation, campaigning or advertisements of any non-government organization, product or service is not permitted.
  • Slanderous or defamatory remarks, obscene language or sexual content will not be tolerated.
  • Information that may compromise the safety or security of the public or City employees will be removed.
  • Stay on topic and do not upload content or post a comment that is unrelated to the purpose of the site.

Users must also abide by the Terms of Use for the company hosting the site or platform.

The City of Cambridge reserves the right to remove comments that violate these Terms of Use. The City reserves the right to post, refuse to post, or remove content or commenting from its social media channels at any time, without notice. Violating these Terms of Use may result in removal of your comment(s) and/or your access to the site.

Users should be aware that, unless otherwise stated, all posts or comments by the public on a City of Cambridge social media site are considered to be part of a public record as defined by section 27 of the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. This includes any information attached or included in a post (e.g. information linked to a username) Please be advised that the privacy provisions of Part 2 of that Act would not apply to any information you post.
