The City of Cambridge offers recreation swim activities at our two indoor pools.  All swims are subject to admission rules and provincial restrictions. See fees and memberships for rates.

Recreational Swim - Pandemic Health & Safety Guidelines

Recreational Swims will be modified to follow guidelines and health precautions as set out by the Province of Ontario and the Waterloo Regional Public Health Unit.

  1. Customers are encouraged to book their spot in advance.
  2. Mandatory active screening, contact information and attendance for all guests is required. You can find the screening questionnaire at cambridge.ca/screening.
  3. Swimmers may still bring their own equipment (e.g., flutter board, noodle) for swims. All pool equipment must be approved by aquatic staff. Equipment will need to be kept with you at all times and cannot be shared with people not in your household.
  4. Please note the directional signage on the pool deck. Physical distancing requirements per Ontario government recommendations will be encouraged.
  5. Recreational Swims – Swim Admission Process guidelines apply to swimming.
  6. PPE should be worn according to “The Regional Municipality of Waterloo By-law requiring the wearing of face coverings in enclosed public places” (e.g., masks) however they pose a safety risk if covering your mouth and nose while wet and such masks cannot be worn when you are swimming.

The  Ontario government is temporarily moving the province into a modified version of Step Two of its Roadmap to Reopen to slow the spread of the highly contagious Omicron variant. These targeted and time-limited measures are meant to allow more opportunity to deliver vaccines and ensure everyone has maximum protection against this virus. The changes take effect as of Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at 12:01 a.m. for at least 21 days (until January 26, 2022).

As a result, all recreation facilities will be closed and indoor winter programs offered by the City will be postponed until further notice. This includes the closure of the Cambridge Centre for the Arts, recreation and older adults facilities, and arenas.  Please check out our #Recfromhome for great on-line videos and activities brought to you by Recreation and Culture staff and instructors to keep you creative, move your body and stay engaged!

Swim Descriptions

Lane Swim

Lanes are open for lane swimming. Whether you swim slow, medium or fast, we have a lane to suit your needs. Lane etiquette must be followed.

Splash Swim

Enjoy this opportunity for multi-use of the pool.  Including unstructured playtime for children accompanied by a caregiver, adult leisure swim and lanes available for lane swim.  Lifejackets may be used in the deep end. Children under 18 years of age must swim with someone 18 years of age or older. Swim Admission Process still applies.

Leisure Swim

Come spend time playing and enjoying the water. All ages are welcome and the diving board is open for use. Swim Admission Process applies.

AquaCombo

Water exercise is a good fit for everyBODY. These classes will energize you while they improve your fitness in a gravity-reduced, resistive environment. Each workout includes warm-up, cardiovascular exercise, muscle conditioning and stretch.  The AquaCombo class will transition from chest deep to deep water, with the option to work exclusively at your preferred depth.

AquaDeep

There is no access to shallow water in the outdoor pool classes. Deep water aqua fitness improves balance, while it challenges cardio and core strength in a zero-gravity environment.  No swimming skill is required, but you should be comfortable in deep water.  Flotation belts are provided.  AquaDeep can provide a new challenge to your land based training, or expand your aqua fitness skills.

AquaBility

This class is ideal for adults, participants with joint pain, pregnant participants, people recovering from injuries or surgeries, or anyone new to aquatic exercise.  AquaBility classes will help you improve balance, align and strengthen your core, and adapt exercises as required to suit their specific needs and exercise abilities.  AquaBility participants are welcome to work in either deep or chest deep water.
