Parks

The City of Cambridge has more than 200 properties, including 365 hectares of developed parkland and over 650 hectares of natural areas for you to explore and enjoy.

Please respect others while using our parks - be fair and share the space!

Some parks have picnic areas that you can rent. You can even rent Mill Race Park for your wedding photos or ceremony

Key things to know:

  • Parks are shared public spaces used by many groups.
  • Everyone is expected to follow park rules and respect nearby neighbours, and property.
  • Booking a space helps ensure it is used safely and fairly.
    • Booking is required for any organized play on City sports fields.
    • Booking is required for picnic shelter use.
    • Anyone can book a facility - both residents and visitors.

The City of Cambridge has both open air and sheltered picnic areas available for rent from May 4, 2026, to October 11, 2026. Picnic reservation requests can be submitted on the first business day of each year. Our largest picnic shelter can accommodate up to a maximum of 125.

Picnic Areas are not reservable during the winter, but they are available for use on a first come first served basis with restrictions.

Reservable picnic areas include:

  • 2 picnic shelters at Riverside Park
  • 2 open air picnic areas at Riverside Park
  • 1 picnic shelter at Churchill Park
  • 1 open air picnic area at Churchill Park
  • 1 picnic shelter at Soper Park
  • 1 picnic shelter at Hespeler Optimist Park

Non-reservable picnic areas (available on a first come first serve basis) include:

  • 1 picnic shelter at Riverside Park

To book one of our picnic shelters, please contact Service Cambridge.

  • Parks are closed between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m.
  • Alcohol is not allowed in any public park
  • Dogs must be on a leash at all times and that dog owners are responsible to "Stoop and Scoop" and dispose of their waste. Be environmentally friendly and use your Green Bin for pet waste.
  • Fireworks are not permitted in any park without a permit.
  • Motorized vehicles are not permitted on park grounds or on any trails.
  • Parking is not permitted on grass areas; only in designated parking areas.
  • Open fires are not permitted in any park.
  • Charcoal BBQ's are not permitted; only propane BBQ's are permitted for use.
  • There is no camping or overnight parking permitted in any park.
  • Removal or damage to any plants, shrubs, flowers and trees is not permitted.
  • It is not permitted to injure, hunt, trap, or disturb any animal or bird, or destroy, damage or disturb the nest or den or egg of any fish, bird or animal.
  • There is no dumping allowed in any park.
  • Property encroachment onto city land is not permitted.
  • Sporting areas, spectator areas, playgrounds, splash pads and any area within 20 metres of any sporting or spectator areas are smoke and vape-free, in accordance with the Smoke-Free Ontario Act 
  • Failure to follow any of the above regulations is a chargeable offence.
  • Alcohol and charcoal/open-flame BBQs are not permitted in our picnic areas. Only propane BBQs are allowed.
  • Inflatables (Bouncy Castles) and Dunk Tanks are not permitted.
  • Hydro is unavailable at all picnic sites.
  • Picnic site capacities are limited to the available tables.
  • Any area within 20 metres of any picnic area or shelter is designated smoke and vape-free, in accordance of the Smoke-Free Ontario Act

The Parks Master Plan was approved by Council on May 27, 2025. 

Thanks to all those who participated in surveys, interviews, focus groups, public meetings, and other consultations as the plan was developed. Your ideas provided valuable input into the plan and helped create the levels of service, areas of focus and proposed recommendations in the plan.
