Nominations Open for Cambridge Business Improvement Area Board Elections
Nominations are now open for the 2026-2030 Boards of Management for Cambridge's three Business Improvement Areas (BIAs): Downtown Cambridge, Hespeler Village and Preston Towne Centre.
Board members help provide leadership and strategic direction for their BIA, supporting local businesses and guiding initiatives that contribute to vibrant commercial districts. Eligible business and property owners, tenants and nominees are encouraged to consider putting their names forward. Nominations close Friday, September 4 at 4:30 p.m.
"Cambridge's BIAs play an important role in supporting local businesses, strengthening our commercial districts and helping create dynamic destinations for residents and visitors," said City Manager Rob Axiak. "Serving on a BIA Board is an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to your business community, share your expertise and help shape local priorities. I encourage eligible members to consider putting their names forward."
BIAs are legislated to hold a general election every four years, following the same term as City Council. To run in a BIA Board election, candidates must be an assessed owner of rateable property within the BIA, a tenant responsible for paying all or part of the property taxes, a nominee of an eligible property owner or tenant, or a member of Council.
Each BIA will host a separate election at their Annual General Meeting, as follows:
- Hespeler Village BIA: Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at 6:30 p.m.
- Downtown Cambridge BIA: Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at 6 p.m.
- Preston Towne Centre BIA: Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at 6 p.m.
