Take Our Kids to Work Day allows students to explore careers at the City
Today students will get a behind-the-scenes look at the various careers available in a municipality as the City takes part in the 2026 Take Our Kids to Work Day program.
Open to students of City employees, typically in Grade 9, the day offers a chance to explore career possibilities, meet the people behind City services and see how their work connects to the community.
This morning, students participated in a speed-networking event to meet with City employees in small groups, ask questions and discover how different roles support the community.
There was also a tour of City Hall, including council chambers, the Fire Hall Museum, and even a fire truck!
This afternoon, students are shadowing their parent for a closer look at their daily work.
Led by The Students Commission of Canada, Take Our Kids to Work Day is a national program that helps young people connect what they learn in school with future career possibilities.
This year’s theme, Different Perspectives, Shared Direction, celebrates the diverse backgrounds, experiences, interests and aspirations students bring to the world of work.
