Statement from Mayor Jan Liggett: Canada Day festivities
Statement from the Mayor regarding Canada Day festivities:
"Despite the heat wave, Canada Day at Riverside Park was shaping up to be a truly wonderful celebration. Cambridge residents showed their unwavering Canadian spirit by coming out in great numbers to enjoy both the Canada Day Parade and the festivities at Riverside Park. Their enthusiasm, resilience, and dedication to celebrating our country helped make the day special and demonstrated the strong sense of community that makes Cambridge such a remarkable place to call home.
The park looked fantastic, the community came out in great numbers, and thanks to the hard work of countless staff, volunteers, vendors, performers, and sponsors, we were able to enjoy a memorable day together. While the rain and windstorm that moved through Preston forced us to end the festivities earlier than planned and cancel the evening fireworks, it certainly did not dampen the spirit of our community.
I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped bring this event to life. Months of planning, preparation, and dedication went into creating a celebration that reflected the very best of Cambridge, and we are deeply grateful for those efforts.
I also want to recognize our Infrastructure Services and Operations crews, who responded immediately after the storm.
Many worked until 1:00 a.m. clearing debris and helping ensure public spaces were safe for residents. Their professionalism, hard work, and commitment to our community are truly appreciated.
I am pleased to share that the Canada Day fireworks display will be rescheduled for a later date this year, and we look forward to bringing our community together again.
Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating Canada Day and for continuing to demonstrate the community spirit that makes Cambridge such a special place."
