Seasonal road closures return to Downtown Cambridge and Hespeler Village this spring and summer

The City is once again partnering with the Downtown Cambridge and Hespeler Village Business Improvement Areas for its Seasonal Road Closure Program. This annual initiative creates pedestrian-friendly spaces in the city’s core areas for residents to get out and enjoy this spring and summer.

Starting May 25, a portion of Main Street in Downtown Cambridge will be closed to vehicles to transform the street into a welcoming pedestrian zone. Programming from the Downtown Cambridge BIA will begin on May 31. In Hespeler Village, Queen Street East will be closed to traffic on weekends only, beginning Friday, June 5.

The closures are designed to create safe, inclusive public spaces that encourage people to relax, gather and explore the city’s unique downtown cores. Visitors can look forward to a range of seasonal events, patios, live entertainment and more.

The following streets will be closed:

  • Main St. between Ainslie Street and Water Street, in Downtown Cambridge will be closed seven days a week starting Monday, May 25 through Monday, October 5.

  • Queen Street East between Guelph Avenue and Tannery Street, in Hespeler Village will be closed weekends only starting Friday, June 5 to Sunday, August 30. Weekend closures will begin each Friday at 4 p.m. and end on Sunday at 6 p.m.

Businesses interested in expanding their patios or outdoor space during the closures can apply online at cambridge.ca/businesslicence
