City staff prepare Cambridge fields for the provincial stage

Before the first whistle blows and the first athlete takes aim, City of Cambridge staff are getting the Fountain Street Soccer Complex ready for the Waterloo Region 2026 Ontario Summer Games. 

Cambridge will host soccer and archery competitions at the Soccer Complex, welcoming athletes, coaches, officials, families and spectators to one of the city’s key outdoor sport facilities. Before Games visitors arrive, staff are helping prepare the site so it is ready for a busy and exciting few days of competition. 

For City staff, that means caring for fields, maintaining turf, and preparing grounds for the competitions. Staff are also painting lanes for archery and providing additional support to help manage the increased vehicle and pedestrian traffic expected on site. 

The Games provide an opportunity for Cambridge to showcase the Fountain Street Soccer Complex and welcome visitors from across Ontario. While athletes will take centre stage, the work happening behind the scenes by staff and Games partners will help create a safe, welcoming and competition-ready experience for everyone involved. 

Residents can join the excitement by cheering on athletes, attending events or volunteering during the Waterloo Region 2026 Ontario Summer Games, running July 30 to August 2, 2026.
