City Staff go plow to plow with Regional operators at the 2026 Waterloo Region Road-eo

Yee-haw! City staff from the Roads Department saddled up and joined their counterparts from across Waterloo Region Thursday, for a friendly competition to find the best snowplow operator at the 2026 Waterloo Region Roadeo.

No bulls or roping at this roadeo, just snowplows and obstacles! Competitors were tested on control and precision, including backing up within inches of a target, lifting plows over obstacles, weaving through tight turns, and checking over trucks to find intentionally planted safety and maintenance issues. 

In July, City staff held their own Roadeo in Churchill Park to choose the best of the best, and Adam Daniel, Zach Dymond, Chris Rickard and Wesley Tavares were chosen to represent Cambridge against drivers from the Cities of Kitchener and Waterloo, as well as the Townships of North Dumfries, Wellesley, Wilmot, Woolwich and the Region of Waterloo.

The 2026 Waterloo Region Roadeo was hosted by the Association of Ontario Road Supervisors (AORS) and the Transportation Professionals of Waterloo Region.

Wayne Wideman from Waterloo, and Dannis Jantzi from Kitchener took the top two spots and will compete at the AORS Provincial Roadeo in Owen Sound in September.

The Roadeo offers a fun way for staff to come together and build relationships with other municipalities, plus celebrate professional excellence and maybe even learn a new trick of the trade.
