City receives $500,000 for Accessible Baseball Diamond at Riverside Park
The City of Cambridge is pleased to announce a $500,000 donation from the Lyle S. Hallman Foundation. Presented at Cambridge City Council on May 26, this donation will support the development of a fully accessible Kin 1 Baseball Diamond at Kinsmen Stadium in Riverside Park.
“Donations play an important role in advancing major community projects,” said Mayor Jan Liggett. “We are sincerely grateful to the Lyle S. Hallman Foundation, whose generous support helps ensure our city spaces are accessible and promote active living and well-being across all age groups – particularly among our youth.”
The donation was made through the Cambridge Play it Forward campaign, which provides opportunities for residents and businesses to make lasting contributions toward four capital builds. In addition to the Kin 1 Baseball Diamond, the campaign supports the Cambridge Recreation Complex, the expanded Preston Memorial Auditorium and a new soccer complex.
“We appreciate this donation from Lyle S. Hallman Foundation,” said City Manager Rob Axiak. “This investment will help us make enhancements to the ball diamond so players and fans of all abilities can stay connected, engaged and active.”
Upgrades to the Kin 1 Baseball Diamond will include a fully accessible parking area, hard-surface pathways and enhanced spectator seating to ensure barrier-free movement throughout the site. The total project budget is $3,025,000, with regular programming starting in spring 2027. Learn more about the upgrades and the Play It Forward campaign.
