City of Cambridge Recommends Refusal of Development at 1070 and 1140 Main Street

Cambridge, ON -  City of Cambridge staff are recommending that a development proposal requesting an Official Plan amendment to allow for residential and commercial use not be approved by Council at the March 24, 2026 Council Meeting due to noise and odor concerns.

“We have a responsibility to assess development proposals with the best interests of current and future residents in mind and the understanding that this is where families will invest in building their homes for the long term,” said Brynn Nheiley, Director of Planning. “Staff have spent a significant amount of time, exceeding the decision timeline, working with the applicant to try to resolve issues around noise and odor as the site is located immediately next to the Cambridge Waste Management Centre landfill.”

The Toronto-based developer now has a variety of options:

  1. Accept Council’s Decision
  2. Appeal the Decision, should they disagree
  3. Appeal the application for non-decision in advance of the Council Meeting which is scheduled for March 24, 2026.
