City lowers flags in mourning for former Councillor Ted Fairless
The City of Cambridge is mourning the loss of former City Councillor John Edward (Ted) Fairless, who passed away on March 23, 2025.
Ted served as both City Councillor and Regional Councillor from 1973-1980, 1983-1991 and 1995-2000. He then served as City Councillor for Ward 5 from 2001-2006.
Beginning today, flags at City of Cambridge facilities will be flown at half-mast for three days in his honour.
“Ted was well known for his dedication to this community,” said Mayor Jan Liggett. “His devotion to Cambridge was evident and he will be missed by all who knew him.”
Ted’s commitment to Cambridge saw him serving not only on City and Regional Council, but on several other committees including for the City, the Grand River Conservation Authority, and as a former President of Galt Jaycees (Junior Chamber of Commerce), where his belief in the power of leadership and service helped shape his community for the better.
Ted Fairless passed at Cambridge Memorial Hospital at the age of 88.
