City introduces temporary changes to residential parking to ease neighbourhood pressures
City temporarily relaxing residential parking rules
The City of Cambridge is temporarily relaxing parking rules on residential City streets in advance of a broader, city-wide review.
On-street parking is now allowed for up to five consecutive hours (unless signage says otherwise), and lower boulevard parking is allowed as long as vehicles are parked properly and do not block sidewalks, overhang onto the grass, extend onto the road, or create safety concerns.
These temporary changes are intended to help address current parking challenges while the City monitors impacts and gathers feedback. The changes will remain in place throughout the residential parking review and until the citywide parking review is complete. A broader city-wide parking review is expected to begin in early 2027, subject to budget approval.
The changes apply only to residential streets maintained by the City and do not apply to Region of Waterloo roads. Residents can check if their street is Regional or City owned by searching their address using this tool: Check road ownership.
The changes are now in effect and will be reviewed in early 2027 with staff bringing a recommendation to council.
