City Hall & Council Chambers Reopening October 14
The City of Cambridge will reopen full public access to Council Chambers and City Hall beginning Tuesday, October 14, following the conclusion of a police investigation earlier today which examined persistent disruptive behaviour of a member of the public. The ongoing incidents included threating remarks, inappropriate conduct on City property, aggressively pursuing contact with staff and Council and gaining access to restricted areas of City buildings more than once. City leadership takes these incidents very seriously and implemented increased security measures out of an abundance of caution. The safety of staff, Mayor, Council, and members of the public are always our top priority.
Although police have determined that no criminal charges will be laid, the City will continue to implement security measures and safeguards, including;
- Staff training and updates to existing protocols
- Security personnel at City Hall and Council Meetings
- Bag checks at Council Meetings
- Controlled foot traffic and access points throughout City Hall
- Emergency training with Council and staff
- Additional security enhancements to Council Chambers
The Council meeting scheduled for October 14 will take place in person and meetings will continue to be held in person moving forward and we thank everyone for their patience and understanding.
The reports that were previously removed from this agenda will come forward to a future meeting as soon as possible.
