Cambridge to replace gateway signs at city entrances
Residents asked to weigh in on photos for new signs
The City of Cambridge is replacing gateway signs at key entrances to the city and is inviting residents to help decide which photos to showcase on the newly designed signs.
"Gateway signs are often the first impression visitors have of our community, and we want to showcase all that the city has to offer," said Acting City Manager Lesley Head. "These new signs will help create a more welcoming and attractive entrance for everyone who lives, works and visits here."
The new signs will feature images from different seasons, events and areas around Cambridge. The City is asking residents to visit engagewr.ca/GatewaySigns to rank pictures to be featured on the signs. Residents can rate each photo on a scale from zero to ten, and the photos with the highest ratings will be incorporated into the gateway signs. Voting will be open until Sunday, October 4.
Eleven signs are being replaced, located at various entrances to the city. The existing signs require replacement due to age and weather-related wear. Once the photos have been chosen, the new signs will be produced and installed later this fall. In a playful nod to the blue heron featured on some of the old signs, the outline of a heron will be hidden somewhere on the new signs once they are produced.
While the new gateway signs will soon welcome residents, this is not the end for the original signs. Stay tuned for an exciting update on what's next for these local landmarks.
