Cambridge Fire Department invites residents to attend annual Open House
The Cambridge Fire Department (CFD) is hosting their annual Open House on Saturday, September 13.
Join the fun at Station 1, 1625 Bishop St. N from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to meet CFD staff, tour the fire trucks, participate in junior firefighter games, enjoy a live fire demonstration, and connect with community partners. A BBQ will be available for cash donations, with all proceeds going to Camp BUCKO, which provides children recovering from burn injuries with the opportunity to connect, heal, and have fun.
“This family event is a great opportunity to connect with our local fire department and show support for a meaningful cause,” said Mayor Jan. “Every donation helps and serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of fire safety. Take a behind-the-scenes look at the important work our firefighters do and enjoy a fun day with the community.”
This year’s event ties into Fire Prevention Week (October 5–11) and its theme “Charge into Fire Safety™: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home.” From smartphones and laptops to power tools and toys, lithium-ion batteries are everywhere – and while convenient, they can pose a fire risk if not used or disposed of safely. CFD encourages residents to buy certified products, charge devices properly, and recycle batteries at safe drop-off locations.
“Lithium-ion batteries are becoming a part of our everyday lives, but when they’re damaged, overcharged, or discarded improperly, they can become dangerous,” said Chief Rob Martin. “A few simple safety habits can keep these batteries working safely, prevent fires, and help keep your family protected.”
