Building Community, Wellness and Connection at the Beneva Recreation Complex

Picture children learning to swim, friends meeting for coffee, families exploring the library and community members gathering to play, learn and connect. This is the future taking shape at the Beneva Recreation Complex, a facility designed to bring recreation, wellness and community together under one roof.

As one of the largest capital projects in the City’s history, the complex represents a significant investment in the community's future. When it opens this Spring, residents will have access to a wide range of recreational, educational and cultural opportunities in a space designed to serve people of all ages and abilities.

But this project is about more than pools and gymnasiums.

Located on a shared community campus in southeast Galt, the facility will sit alongside new schools, outdoor amenities and connected public spaces. Together, these elements will create a destination where residents can be active, learn new skills, access services and spend time together close to home.

Inside, residents will find a 10-lane swimming pool, a warm-water leisure and therapy pool, three FIBA-standard gymnasiums, an indoor walking and running track, multi-purpose programming spaces and a new branch of the Cambridge Public Library. Whether someone is attending a swim lesson, joining a fitness program, borrowing a book, walking the indoor track or gathering with neighbours, the facility has been designed to support lifelong recreation and community connection.

From Renderings to Reality

While it's easy to imagine the future, an enormous amount of work is happening behind the scenes to bring that vision to life.

Construction continues to progress steadily across the site. The building structure is complete, interior finishes are taking shape and spaces that once existed only on drawings are beginning to look like the community amenities residents will soon enjoy. Throughout the facility, construction crews are transforming concrete and steel into welcoming, functional spaces designed for everyday use.

Every milestone moves the project one step closer to opening day and one step closer to delivering new recreation opportunities for a growing community.

Getting Ready for Opening Day

Preparing for opening day involves more than completing the building itself.

Over the coming months, the City will begin recruiting the people who will help bring the facility to life, including lifeguards, swim instructors, customer service representatives, fitness staff and facility operators. More than 50 part-time positions are expected to support operations across the complex and help ensure residents have safe, welcoming and positive experiences from the moment the doors open.

Residents interested in employment opportunities will be able to follow updates through the City's employment channels as recruitment begins.

Looking Ahead

Although construction crews are still hard at work, many of the spaces are already easy to picture: the splash of swimmers entering the pool, the sound of sneakers on the gym floor, neighbours meeting after a morning walk and families discovering their new local library.

The building may still be under construction, but the purpose behind it is already clear. The Beneva Recreation Complex is being built to help people connect, stay active, learn, grow and belong. And in just a few short months, those experiences will become part of everyday life in Cambridge.
