As of June 20th, 2022, the City of Cambridge will begin offering Civil Marriage Ceremonies. Please read the guidelines below for more information.

  1. Civil marriage ceremonies will be performed on-site at Old City Hall in the area outside of the Archives / Hall of Fame Room.
  2. Wedding couples can book a ceremony in person at City Hall, or can call (519) 623-1340 and book an appointment over the phone. Ceremonies may be booked on Mondays only (excluding statutory holidays) for available time slots between the hours of 10am and 3pm. No ceremonies will be booked between 8:30am and 10:00am, from 12:00pm to 1:00pm, and from 3:00pm onwards.
  3. All chairs, tables, and signing pens will be disinfected by the Officiant prior to and after the ceremony.
  4. A separate signing pen will be provided for each person signing documents.
  5. Should a chair be used for signing, it will be disinfected in between uses by the Officiant.
  6. Upon arrival at Old City Hall, attendees (including wedding couples) and their guests will be required to wait outside the doors to Old City Hall a maximum of 5-10 minutes prior to the scheduled appointment time. Wedding couples and guests arriving earlier than 10 minutes prior to their ceremony will not be permitted entry.
  7. At the appointed time, the Marriage Officiant will greet wedding couples and their guests at the entrance to Old City Hall and will escort them to the designated ceremony space.
  8. Due to space limitations and physical distancing protocols, a maximum of ten (10) people, including the Officiant, will be permitted to attend civil marriage ceremonies. For greater clarity, there must be one (1) Officiant, two (2) people getting married (wedding couple), and two (2) witnesses. Five (5) additional guests will be allowed to attend. Infants / children will be counted towards this total.
  9. If seating is available, attendees may be seated in the designated spaces, or may stand provided that physical distancing is adhered to.
  10. At the conclusion of their civil marriage ceremony, wedding couples, their witnesses and guests will promptly vacate Old City Hall to permit the Marriage Officiant time to disinfect and prepare for the next ceremony. Wedding couples and their guests will not be permitted to take pictures outside of the ceremony space or wander around within the building.
  11. Wedding couples will be required to present a signed copy of the Acknowledgement of Responsibility form prior to confirmation and payment of their civil ceremony booking.
  12. Missed or cancelled ceremonies will not be refunded by the City.
