Cambridge Community Connections offers up to $2,500 in funding for community-based initiatives

Residents and organizations looking to improve the health, lifestyle or wellbeing of their community can apply to a new micro-grant program beginning today, July 3.

Cambridge Community Connections provides funds of up to $2,500 for local initiatives such as a block party, plant exchange, road hockey tournament, nature walk, group exercise or a movie night.

“In a time when many people feel increasingly disconnected, fostering community ties is more important than ever. Loneliness and social isolation are real challenges that can impact mental health and emotional well-being,” said Mayor Jan Liggett. “Simple acts like organizing a neighbourhood walk or community movie night can make a big difference. I invite residents to take the lead in creating moments of connection that reflect the spirit of Cambridge.”

Funding is available for local non-profits, community organizations, individual residents, and informal groups. Applications will be reviewed on a first come, first served basis, and will close once all the funds have been distributed. Applicants will have to submit a work plan and a budget to be considered. Preference will be given to new initiatives before existing projects, and to applications led by or focused on providing services to equity deserving groups. Projects must take place in Cambridge and be free for the public to attend. It will also need to align with the City’s Strategic Plan goals of People, Place, Prosperity to qualify for a grant. The full details of the application process are listed on our website. The application review process will take a minimum of six weeks, and applicants will be notified via email if their request for funding was approved or denied.

Cambridge Community Connections is possible thanks to $10,000 in funding from the Waterloo Region Community Foundation.
