Turn extra space into new opportunities with an ARU
Property owners who have constructed an Additional Residential Unit (ARU) may be eligible for a one-time grant of up to $10,000 through the City's Additional Residential Unit Financial Assistance Program.
An ARU is a great way for multigenerational families to live together, separately, or to provide extra income as a rental unit. self-contained residential unit with its own kitchen, washroom, and sleeping area, located either within a primary dwelling or in a detached building on the same property.
The grant is available to help offset eligible costs, including:
• Upgrades to sanitary and/or water services
• Professionally prepared permit drawings
• Construction costs, including labour and materials
Applications can be submitted through the City's online portal at permits.cambridge.ca under Financial Incentives. Applicants will be required to provide proof of property ownership and invoices for eligible expenses.
