Statement from Mayor Jan Liggett

Statement from the Mayor regarding New Development Charge Reduction Program:

"This week’s announcement from the federal and provincial governments requires careful review before the City of Cambridge can determine whether participation is in the best interests of our community. As one of Ontario's fastest-growing cities, Cambridge must ensure that growth-related infrastructure remains properly funded and that existing property taxpayers are not left to absorb additional costs. We also want to see a clear and transparent mechanism that guarantees any reductions in development charges are passed directly on to homebuyers and contribute to improved housing affordability. City staff will assess the details of the program, its financial implications, and its impact on our long-term infrastructure needs before any decisions are made."
