Sparks fly – safely – at Cambridge Fire Department’s annual Open House

Residents of all ages are invited to attend the Cambridge Fire Department (CFD) annual Open House on Saturday, September 12, 2026.  

This family-friendly event features live fire safety demonstrations, the opportunity to tour the station and fire trucks, interactive games for kids, giveaways, information about smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms, and how to plan a home escape route. 

“The Open House is a fun opportunity for families to come out, meet with firefighters, see the firetrucks up close and participate in games and activities, while reinforcing the importance of fire safety, and working smoke alarms,” said Mayor Jan Liggett. 

As part of the Open House, CFD staff will be educating residents about Test Your Smoke Alarm Day, which happens annually on September 28. This day serves as a reminder that smoke alarms save lives, but only when they are properly installed, maintained, and tested monthly.

“Taking 30 seconds each month to test your smoke alarm can help keep your family safe in the event of a fire,” said Fire Chief Damond Jamieson. "Working smoke alarms provide an early warning and can give everyone in your household the extra time needed to safely escape."
