Quick Action by Cambridge Fire Saves Duck Family

Cambridge fire to the rescue of young duck family

A family of ducklings is safe thanks to a quick response from Cambridge firefighters this week.

Crews were called after ten ducklings were spotted trapped beneath a storm drain grate, while their mother waited nearby. Firefighters used standard tools to safely access the storm drain and the rescue was completed without incident. All ten ducklings were reunited with their mother on a nearby lawn.

The heartwarming rescue was captured on video and shared by Cambridge Fire, showing the ducklings being lifted out one by one and returned to their waiting mom.

While animal rescues are not common, Cambridge Fire is always prepared to help when it is safe. Residents who encounter trapped animals are encouraged to contact animal control first, or emergency services if there is immediate danger.
