Good conversations help make the community safer during Fire Prevention Week

While many people think of firefighters responding to emergencies, Cambridge Fire also works year-round to help prevent fires before they happen.

During Fire Prevention Week, the Public Education team was out in the community sharing safety information and encouraging simple habits to keep everyone safe. This year’s theme, "Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging is a Superpower," focused on reducing the risk of lithium-ion battery fires through safe charging habits. Residents were encouraged to use the charger supplied with their device, or one approved by the manufacturer, to charge devices on hard, flat surfaces rather than beds or couches, and unplug devices once fully charged.

One of the week's highlights was attending a local seniors' community event, where Public Educators spent time speaking with residents about smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, cooking safety, and other simple ways to reduce fire risks at home. The strong turnout created valuable opportunities for meaningful conversations and community connections where Cambridge Fire could share information and answer resident questions.

Throughout the week, the Public Education team reinforced an important message: small preventative actions can make a big difference. Whether it's testing smoke alarms, practicing safe cooking habits, or charging devices safely, these everyday actions help protect families and homes.

For Cambridge Fire, preventing fires is just as important as fighting them. By sharing information, connecting with residents, answering questions, and working together, we can all contribute to a safer community for everyone.
