City staff put their skills to the test at equipment ROAD-eo!

Back the truck up! City staff from the Roads Department put their driving skills to the test this week at a Roadeo in Churchill Park to showcase their safe driving, equipment operation and technical skills.

The Roadeo didn't involve horses or bulls, but operators behind the wheel of plows, saddling up to show off their skills in a circuit of seven events. Lifting the plow over obstacles, driving through tight turns and getting as close to an object as possible while backing up were a few of the tasks staff wrangled. The Roadeo was supported by the Association of Ontario Road Supervisors (AORS), who helped to set up the course. 33 operators took part in the friendly competition and four were chosen as the top performers:

First Place: Zach Dymond
Second Place: Chris Rickard
Third Place: Wesley Tavares
Fourth Place: Adam Daniel

These four will represent the City of Cambridge at the 2026 Waterloo Region Roadeo in August, hosted by AORS and the Transportation Professionals of Waterloo Region. They will be pitting their talents against operators working for the Cities of Kitchener and Waterloo, as well as the Townships of North Dumfries, Wellesley, Wilmot, Woolwich and the Region of Waterloo. The top two operators from that event will compete at the AORS Provincial Roadeo in Owen Sound on September 23, 2026.

The Roadeo offers a fun way for staff to celebrate professional excellence, while highlighting the commitment to safety, and the precision operation it takes to drive large, heavy machinery. The City would like to thank the Roads Department Supervisors for their work coordinating the event, and wish good luck to Adam, Chris, Wesley and Zach as they compete at the 2026 Waterloo Region Roadeo!
