Cambridge youth take the next step as future leaders

A group of 16 Cambridge youth celebrated an important milestone last week as they completed the City of Cambridge's Leaders in Training (LIT) camp program. Designed for youth aged 13 to 15, the program equips participants with valuable leadership, safety, and program-planning skills while inspiring the next generation of recreation leaders.

The new grads join the roster of 48 other grads that have completed the program so far this year. Throughout the training, participants earned their HIGH FIVE^® Principles of Healthy Child Development certification, and Safeguard training. They also learned about summer camp operations, safety practices, City policies and procedures, and how to create engaging recreational programs for children, but the learning doesn’t stop with the classroom experience.

Now that they have completed the program, the new grads will move into placements within City summer camp operations, where they'll gain hands-on experience assisting Camp Leaders, supporting activities, and helping create memorable experiences for younger campers. The placements can also provide valuable community service hours and prepare participants for future employment opportunities with the City.
