Cambridge: Get ready to make a splash this summer

City announces outdoor pool opening dates

Cambridge swimmers can pull their swimsuits out of storage as the City prepares to open outdoor swimming pools. Cambridge is home to two outdoor pools, the George Hancock Pool and the Ed Newland Pool, which offer a fun way to keep cool and active in the summer heat.

The George Hancock Pool will open on June 13 and will run a preseason schedule until June 28, with following operating hours:

  • Mondays to Fridays from 4 to 7 p.m.
  • Saturdays from 12:30 to 7 p.m., and
  • Sundays from 1:30 to 7 p.m.

From June 29 to September 7, the George Hancock Pool will be open:

  • Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Saturday from 12:30 to 7 p.m.
  • Sunday from 1:30 to 7 p.m.

The Ed Newland Pool opening will be delayed while the City widens walkways and expands parking at the site. Widened pathways will support safer access for people using mobility aids or strollers, or for anyone who may need additional support. Construction is nearing completion and the pool is expected to open in late June or early July. A date will be shared once available.

In addition to its outdoor pools, the City offers two indoor swimming pools and 11 outdoor spray pads to help residents keep cool and active in the summer heat. Drop-in swim programs are available at both the W.G. Johnson Pool and John Dolson Pool, and spray pads are open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. until September 7.

More details are available on the City website: swim schedules are available at cambridge.ca/pools and spray pad locations can be found at cambridge.ca/spraypads.
