Cambridge expands free tree program with Reep partnerships

Residents in two Cambridge neighbourhoods can now receive free trees through an expanded program led by Reep Green Solutions in partnership with the City of Cambridge.

The Community Canopy initiative is open to both Greenway-Chaplin and Fiddlesticks neighbourhoods, offering eligible property owners up to three free trees. The program focuses on areas with lower tree coverage and aims to help increase the city’s overall tree canopy, which currently averages about 27 per cent.

Participants receive an arborist consultation, tree delivery and planting, and follow-up care. Multi-residential, school, and faith properties may be eligible for up to five trees.

The program supports the city’s goal of reaching 30% tree canopy coverage by 2031, with organizers noting that planting on private property plays a key role in achieving that target.

Nearly 200 trees have already been planted this season, with another 600 expected to be planted by the end of the year.
