Cambridge answers the call: Crossing guard positions filled across the city

Getting students to and from school safely takes a community, and Cambridge residents answered the call this summer.

The City of Cambridge is pleased to share that all crossing guard positions have been filled for the 2026/27 school year, with an overwhelming number of residents stepping forward to staff more than 50 crossing locations across the city.

From busy school areas and major intersections, new and returning crossing guards will be helping students arrive at school safely each day.  Their familiar faces are often the first to greet kids on their way to school and the last to see them on their way home, becoming a trusted face in their community and creating a safer environment for students, families, and school communities.

Crossing guards not only play an important role in helping children safely navigate busy intersections and school crossings, but they also help to increase driver awareness, remind drivers to slow down, and contribute to safer school zones for everyone.

The City extends its sincere thanks to everyone who stepped up and applied and to the dedicated crossing guards who will be serving throughout the school year.

As students return to the classroom, residents are encouraged to do their part to keep school zones safe by slowing down in school zones, staying alert at crossings, and taking a moment to wave hello and thank a crossing guard for the important work they do each day.
