Bringing the Ballot to Residents: Cambridge’s At Home Voting Program Continues to Make a Difference

The City of Cambridge’s At Home Voting Program is helping ensure every eligible voter has the opportunity to participate in the municipal election, regardless of mobility, health, or accessibility challenges. Since its introduction, the program has provided residents with a convenient, secure, and accessible way to cast their ballot from the comfort of their own home, reinforcing the City’s commitment to removing barriers and supporting inclusive civic participation.

For many residents, the program offers more than just a way to vote. It provides a meaningful connection to the democratic process and reassurance that their voice matters. Election staff visit residents in their homes to facilitate voting, creating a personalized and supportive experience that has been widely appreciated by participants and their families.

“Participating in the At Home Voting Program has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career,” said election team member, Dan S. “Being welcomed into residents’ homes and helping them exercise their right to vote reminds us why accessibility matters. Many voters tell us how much it means to have this option available, and seeing their appreciation firsthand is incredibly fulfilling.”

Residents who have used the service say it has made a significant difference in their ability to take part in the election.

“The At Home Voting Program gave me the opportunity to vote when getting to a voting location would have been otherwise impossible,” said one voter. “The staff were professional, respectful, and helpful throughout the process. It was reassuring to know the City had thought about people in situations like mine and made voting accessible.”

With Voting Day taking place on October 26, eligible voters are reminded that a limited number of At Home Voting appointments are available for voters requiring at-home accommodation. Residents who believe they may qualify are encouraged to contact the City’s hotline number 519-513-6415 to inquire about remaining appointment availability.

The At Home Voting Program is one of several ways the City of Cambridge is working to make voting accessible, convenient, and inclusive for all residents, helping ensure every voice has the opportunity to be heard.
