Working the municipal election?

  • All election workers are required to attend a mandatory training session
  • Voting day hours of work are 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Municipal election positions
 Managing Deputy Returning Officer (MDRO)
  • Supervise voting procedures and other election workers at assigned voting place
  • Operate the automatic vote tabulator at the assigned voting place
  • Assist with setup and takedown of tabulator machine
  • Account for ballots
  • Insert ballots in vote tabulator
  • Assist voters as required
  • Complete and process revision forms, where required
  • Require a voter to swear an oath or affirm, either verbally or in writing, as to his or her identity or qualifications to be a voter and administer the appropriate oath when necessary
  • Assist with voting location closing procedures
  • Pack up supplies
  • Remain at the location until all closing procedures have been completed
  • Basic computer skills required

Pay

  • $275.00
 Deputy Returning Officer (DRO)
  • Require a voter to swear an oath or affirm, either verbally or in writing, as to his or her identity or qualifications to be a voter and administer the appropriate oath when necessary
  • Assist with voting location set up and opening procedures
  • Check voter identification and instruct voters on voting procedures
  • Assist with issuing of ballots
  • Provide instructions on how to vote, if necessary
  • Accept and process applications to amend the voters’ list
  • Accept and process Appointments of Proxy
  • Assist the Managing Deputy Returning Officer as required
  • Remain at the location until all closing procedures have been completed
  • Pack up supplies
  • Basic computer skills required

Pay

  • $225.00
 Poll Clerk
  • Check voter identification and instruct voters on voting procedures
  • Assist with voting location set up and opening procedures
  • Issue ballots
  • Provide instructions on how to vote, if necessary
  • Assist the Managing Deputy Returning Officer and Deputy Returning Officer as required
  • Pack up supplies
  • Remain at the location until all closing procedures have been completed

Pay

  • $200.00
 Election Assistant/Greeter
  • Assist with voting location set up and opening procedures
  • Greet voters and ask for voter identification and voter notification card
  • Confirm voter is at the correct voting location
  • Direct voters to voting area
  • Assist voters as needed
  • Assist with various duties
  • Remain at the location until all closing procedures have been completed

  • $175.00

Applications to work the 2018 Municipal Election were accepted until Friday, August 31, 2018. 

Those who have been selected have been notified. 

Municipal Election Compliance Audit Committee

The City of Cambridge, along with the municipalities of the Region of Waterloo are working together to establish a Municipal Election Compliance Audit Committee (MECAC).

The MECAC will review candidate and/or registered third-party 2018 election campaign finances.  When an application is made to the MECAC, the municipality will strike a committee and invite members from a pool of accepted applicants to participate in the review of the relevant campaign finances.

Interested individuals were invited to submit an application to the Office of the Regional Clerk for the Region of Waterloo by 4:30 p.m. on July 20, 2018.  Individuals who are appointed to the Committee will be contacted directly.
