 Athletic Achievement Awards
The City of Cambridge presents the athletic achievement awards twice a year, in May and October. Cambridge Council recognizes any Cambridge athlete or team who has finished top three in a provincial, national, or international event which has been sanctioned by a governing body. Individuals who have been named to any Provincial, Canadian or Olympic team can also be recognized for their accomplishment.

To be eligible for an Athletic Achievement Recognition Award, the individual(s) must be a resident of the City of Cambridge or an associated member of a relevant sports organization in the City of Cambridge.  In addition, a minimum of one of the following is required:

  • A citizen or team has won first, second or third in a national or international event that was sanctioned by a governing body
  • A citizen or team has won first, second or third in a provincial event sanctioned by a governing body
  • A citizen has been named to any Canadian Olympic team
  • A citizen has been named to any Canadian National or Provincial team

Complete the Individual Athlete Recognition Form or the Sports Team Recognition Form to nominate an individual or team for an award.

 Sport Bursaries
The City of Cambridge offers the Arthur White and Scott-Thompson bursaries to support individuals pursuing athletic excellence as well as the Lions Can-Amera bursary to support participation in high school sports. The Arthur White Sports Bursary Funds Committee reviews all applications and distributes funds based on qualifications, level of competition and level of excellence.

Individuals can complete the Arthur White Bursary Application Form for the Arthur White or Scott-Thompson bursaries. Schools wishing to learn more about the Lions Can-Amera bursary can contact Siobhan Haughey at 519-623-1340 ext 4576 or  siobh@cambridge.ca

Arthur White Sports Bursary Fund
This fund honours Arthur White who served his community in many ways as Alderman and Mayor of the City of Galt, as well as a Member of Parliament. Arthur White was also actively involved in the development of amateur sports in Cambridge. Since 1973, this fund supports athletes who represent our community in events outside of the region, including provincial, national and international competitions, through financial assistance.

Recipients must be, at the discretion of the Trustees, deserving of financial assistance. They must also be:

  • Residents of the City of Cambridge
  • A registered member of a relevant athletic group in Cambridge
  • A team or athletic group representing the City of Cambridge at the provincial, national or international level of competition
Scott-Thompson Fund

The City of Galt (now Cambridge) received a donation in 1966 to set up a fund in memory of former mayors of the City of Galt, Stewart Scott who served from 1912 to 1913 and Adam Thompson who served from 1906 to 1907. The fund helps athletes with exceptional talent, who have the potential to be Canadian or International champions.

The original anonymous donor is thought to be Joseph Stauffer, a very generous native of the former City of Galt.

We accept applications for this bursary fund throughout the year. Applications may not be considered until after the event or competition, with the submission of relevant receipts.

Masters events are not considered.

 Can-Amera Bursary Fund

When the Can-Amera Games ended in February 2007, the Cambridge Can-Amera Committee decided to leave a lasting legacy of the Games by establishing a bursary fund to assist local athletes. This bursary assists Cambridge high school athletes who require financial assistance to play on high school sports teams.

Each high school in Cambridge can apply for this fund and decides which student is in most need of the financial assistance.
