Public Skating

The City of Cambridge offers a wide variety of Pay As You Go skate programs. Whether you are interested in shinny, stick and puck or a public skate, we have something for everyone.  

Galt Arena Elevator Construction

Please be advised the passenger lift at the Galt Arena Gardens will be decommissioned as of Friday, January 2, 2026 for construction of the new elevator. This means there will be no elevator access to the second level of the building until the new elevator has been installed in March 2026.

There is limited accessible seating available on the main level, with some additional spots that will require individuals to be able to climb up to three steps.

In the next few days staff will reach out to anyone who has rented space in the arena during this time period. They will have the option of remaining at the Galt Arena Gardens, or moving to an accessible location.

Please accept our sincere apologies to anyone affected by this news. We thank you for your patience as we continue to make improvements to this century-old arena

Before you are ready to lace up at our arenas, please note: 

• All Public Skate programs are popular and often reach capacity. Capacity limits are enforced.
• Public and Noon Skate programs are not available for pre-registration online. Pay at the facility to participate. Payment method is cash only. 
• The admissions desk will open approximately 15 minutes before the start of the program.
• Designated dressing rooms may be made available for changing, tying of skates etc. The City of Cambridge is not responsible for any lost or stolen articles
• All instructions provided by skate patrol and facility staff are to be respected and followed.
• Only persons wearing skates are permitted on the ice. Boots and shoes are not permitted.
• Skaters 6 years and younger must be accompanied and supervised on the ice by a parent/guardian 18 and over.
• All accidents and injuries must be reported to skate patrol or facility staff.
• No objects or persons are permitted to be on the ice when the Zamboni is resurfacing.
• The use of sticks, pucks or balls outside of the ice area is strictly prohibited.
• Food/drinks are not permitted on the ice.

Registration

Public and Noon skate programs are not available for pre-registration. Registration is completed at the facility at the time of the program. These programs are first come, first served and can be registered for with cash only. 

Stick and puck and ticket ice programs are available to register on a monthly basis through our CORAL website.

All 50+ Shinny and Adult (18+) Shinny programs are available for registration through PickupHub via the City of Cambridge. Registration opens 7 days prior to the program at 8:00 a.m.

Equipment Rentals

Skate and helmet rentals are available during Galt Arena Public Skates, Thursdays 4:30-6pm and Sundays 10:30am-12pm. Rental rates are listed below.

Skates: $3.00

Helmets: $2.00

Program Descriptions and Schedules

Capacity is limited and is first come, first served for public and noon skate programs. For stick and puck and shinny programs, please register before you visit to avoid disappointment.

Recreation staff will be provide all paid customers with wrist bands which must kept on until the end of the skate.
