There are three conservation areas within the city of Cambridge that are open to the public. The Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) owns and manages these areas.

Chilligo Conservation Area

The Chilligo Conservation Area is next to the Speed River in Cambridge. The area includes forest, meadows and marshlands. The Mill Run Trail starts at Chilligo Conservation Area and ends in Riverside Park.

Dumfries Conservation Area

Located at Dunbar and Hespeler roads in Cambridge, the Dumfries Conservation Area offers a place to enjoy the outdoors and appreciate nature. The area includes forests, wetlands and trails.  

Shade's Mills Conservation Area

Shade's Mills Conservation Area is a great place to enjoy nature. The conservation area is open all-year-round and features a number of facilities and recreation activities, including:

  • Hiking
  • Cycling
  • Picnicking
  • Cross-country skiing
  • Snowshoeing
  • Ice fishing
