The City of Cambridge Infrastructure Services Department is responsible for sweeping 916 curb lane kilometers including both City and Regional roads. Street sweeping not only helps to provide aesthetically pleasing roads but also benefits the environment and infrastructure while maintaining good drainage.

Street sweeping operations begin the first week of April and continue throughout the summer and into the fall until the completion of the Loose Leaf Collection Program.

Sweeping routes

There are 22 sweeper routes throughout the city maintained by three sweepers. Sweeping operations are most active during the spring cleanup months of April and May with work occurring in two shifts:

  • Day sweeping shift – Residential routes
  • Night sweeping shift – Regional roads

Help us maintain a clean road network by avoiding the deposit of yard debris onto the road and removing your vehicle from the road if you see sweeping taking place.
