We’re expanding our snow clearing efforts with the new Snow Removal Assistance Program.
The program ensures those who are both physically and financially unable to clear snow from their sidewalk and driveway apron, during winter, get the help they need.
We’ve partnered with Community Support Connections (CSC) to provide free snow removal services to 50 eligible residents between November 1 - April 30.

Eligibility
You may be eligible to apply for the program if you meet all of the following:
- Are a resident of the City of Cambridge
- Are a person living with a disability that prevents you from removing snow, and have no person living in the same household who is physically able to remove snow.
- Your household income is below $40,000 (single) or $50,000 (couple)

CSC manages the application process including, evaluating eligibility by providing an at home visit. They then provide the City with an approved participant list. Their knowledgeable team will guide you through the application process, ensuring your ease and understanding.
The City will notify residents approved into the program and will provide the snow removal service.

| 1. What if I don’t qualify for this free service? |
| For those who do not meet the specific eligibility criteria for the Snow Removal Assistance Program, an alternative pay-for-service program through CSC remains an option. This arrangement allows eligible residents to access full winter sidewalk and driveway snow services for a set fee. Please contact CSC to learn more about this alternative program. |
| 2. When will I be notified that I am accepted into the program ? |
| The City will notify residents accepted into the program by November 1. |
| 3. Do I need to apply to the program every year? |
| No, once approved for the program CSC will confirm your continued eligibility on an annual basis. |
| 4. I'm on the waiting list, what does that mean? |
| Once all 50 spots in the program have been filled, any additional applicants that meet the eligibility criteria will be place on a waiting list by CSC. If a spot opens up, CSC will review the waiting list for the next eligible participant. Those on the waiting list may wish to ask CSC about the alternative pay-for-service program. |
| 5. When will my snow be cleared? |

The Snow Removal Assistance Program operates starting on the first snowfall after November 1 through to April 30. Staff monitor sidewalk and driveway apron conditions to ensure the surface meets the Corridor Management Bylaw 21-050 Generally, snow is cleared when at least 5 centimetres has accumulated. This is done within 36 hours following the end of a weather event. This may be delayed based on weather conditions or during a snow event as staff are out clearing routes. When required, sand and/or salt may be applied to the sidewalk surface or staff may pre-treat surfaces based on weather conditions. |
| 6. What does the City do with the snow? |
| Snow will be cleared and will remain onsite, stored on boulevards or on the road allowance. |
| 7. Can I schedule with the City a time for when my sidewalk or driveway apron will be cleared? |
| No, the City does not have the ability to schedule snow clearing. This is done as timing allows based on weather, snow accumulation and resources. City staff will work to clear driveways within 36 hours of the end of a snow event. |
