Galt Core Height Guidelines Project

Project Overview

The City of Cambridge has recently retained The Planning Partnership to prepare the Building Height Guidelines for the Galt Core Area.  Downtown Cambridge is identified as an “Urban Growth Centre” with a targeted growth of “150 persons + jobs per hectare” by 2031.  The current height regime for the downtown predates the provincial policy framework, and with current growth pressures and investment in the Downtown, the City is being proactive to ensure a managed approach to development.

The purpose of the study is to develop a building height strategy that will then be applied to an update of the existing zoning by-law and official plan, thereby bringing them into conformity with provincial policy, while also mitigating any potential impacts additional height may impose upon the downtown core’s character.
