As part of the poppy street program, the City of Cambridge has over 130 streets throughout the city named after local veterans.

How does the program work?

Beginning in the late 1980s the City of Cambridge established a street naming policy asking developers to select 50 per cent of the names for their new streets from a list of Cambridge veterans maintained by the Cambridge Archives. Developers choose from this list when creating new streets in new developments.  Although 50 per cent of street names must come from this list, in recent years it has been closer to 100 per cent. The veterans list now includes more than 5,000 veterans.
