The City of Cambridge's Business Retention and Expansion Plan takes an action and community-based approach to business and economic development. The Plan promotes job growth by helping the City learn about issues and opportunities for local businesses, and sets priorities to address their needs.
Our approach
Economic Development staff meets with local business leaders to better understand each company's business operations. Staff can then determine the type of support and assistance the City can provide.
Every business helps to shape our local economy. Connecting and communicating with the Cambridge business community provides us with valuable information in order for the City to:
- Build capacity within the community and strengthen relationships between organizations
- Identify the positive and challenging features of the community as a place to do business and work
- Connect businesses with Provincial and/or Federal programming and funding
- Identify and address immediate concerns and issues of individual businesses through an assessment and referral process
- Collect business and market data to support economic development planning
- Establish and implement a strategic action plan to support existing businesses
- Increase the competitiveness of existing businesses
- Enable business development, investment and job creation
- Promote and support business development
- Build and improve relations with existing businesses
Meetings and surveys
The Economic Development team regularly visits businesses, and on occasion, focuses on a particular sector through a survey to better evaluate the needs of that sector in our community.
