The Ontario Building Code Is Vital

Ontario has the best building codes in the world, which is why Ontarians feel safe in the places they live, work and play. When building regulations are followed, communities thrive and disasters are avoided.

Public Health & Safety, better buildings, economic growth, community innovation

The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing (MMAH) maintains and regulates the Ontario Building Code. The City of Cambridge Chief Building Official administers and enforces the Code in our community. The Code regulates building:

  • Construction
  • Renovation
  • Change of use
  • Demolition

Code of Conduct

Section 7.1 of the Building Code Act requires all municipalities to prepare and enforce a Code of Conduct for the Chief Building Official and its inspectors. The City of Cambridge Building Division and Human Resource Division has provided us with the Code of Conduct for Building Officials.

The Code promotes appropriate standards of behavior to prevent practices which may constitute an abuse of power. The Code also promotes appropriate standards of honesty and integrity in the exercise of a power or the performance of a duty under the Building Code Act.
