Scott Hamilton was officially sworn in as Ward 7 Councillor for Cambridge City Council this evening.

“I’m honoured to have this opportunity to serve the residents of Ward 7 and the community as a whole,” said Hamilton. “I look forward to working with Mayor McGarry and my fellow councillors to advocate for the citizens of Cambridge and help move this city forward safely and successfully.”

The next Special Council Meeting will be held virtually on Tuesday Oct. 20 at 10 a.m. Visit the City’s website for the agenda.

On November 5, 2019, Council declared the office of Ward 7 Councillor vacant following the passing of Frank Monteiro. A by-election to fill the seat was scheduled for March 2020 and had been rescheduled to October 5 when the City Clerk declared an emergency pursuant to the Municipal Election Act, Section 53 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. To ensure the highest level of safety, numerous precautions were in effect for the by-election including, maximum capacities, single-use pens and ballot sleeves, plexiglass barriers and enhanced cleaning. Voters also had the choice to cast their vote from the curbside or send a proxy.
