Update on City services; indoor recreation programs postponed until further notice

Posted on Tuesday January 04, 2022

The Ontario government is temporarily moving the province into a modified version of Step Two of its Roadmap to Reopen to slow the spread of the highly contagious Omicron variant. These targeted and time-limited measures are meant to allow more opportunity to deliver vaccines and ensure everyone has maximum protection against this virus. The changes take effect as of Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at 12:01 a.m. for at least 21 days (until January 26, 2022) or until further notice. This will be subject to trends in public health and health system indicators.

As a result, all recreation facilities will be closed at the end of day today (Tuesday) and indoor winter programs offered by the City will be postponed until further notice. This includes the closure of the Cambridge Centre for the Arts, older adults centres, aquatic and arena facilities. Credits will be issued automatically to applicable accounts. City staff are reaching out to update sports groups directly. Further updates will be posted on our Register for a Program page.

Please also note the following:

  • Council meetings continue to be virtual.
  • The Cambridge Farmers’ Market is already operating with reduced capacity numbers and remains open on Saturdays. Customers can also order online or in advance for pick up.
  • New #RecfromHome online programs will be offered. As well, our Without Walls (WOW) virtual seniors program will be expanded. Visit our online Recreation and Culture hub for more information.
  • There will be no facility rentals permitted during this period and no new rentals will be accepted until further notice
  • The Cemeteries administration office will remain open by appointment only with COVID-19 screening and public health protocols in place.
  • Our Economic Development team will be sharing information on the expanded Ontario Business Costs Rebate Program with the local business community.
  • Service Cambridge in City Hall remains open for in person service with public health protocols in place. However, we continue to encourage residents to complete city business online and over the phone. Residents can download the City of Cambridge mobile app for iOS and Android or visit the Service Cambridge Portal. Service Cambridge staff are available by phone at (519) 623-1340 or email at servicecambridge@cambridge.ca.
  • Payments for City utilities/taxes should be done through direct banking services or a drop box is available at City Hall.

The City is monitoring the situation and we will continue to update any further changes. Thank you for your continued patience as we navigate the evolving pandemic together.
